When I pick up my 13 year old son after school,

he always asks me this question;

“Dad, do we have food at home?”

I understand that he is a growing boy

and his body needs a lot of nourishment.

He eats a lot but he is hungry all the time!

He participates in many different kinds of extra-curricular activities —

sports, music, and others.

When he comes home he always asks me the same question:

“Dad, do we have food to eat?”

Are you hungry?

We know that everyone who lives in this world is hungry for something.

They spend time, money and energy to fill up their hunger with something.

How about us?

Isaiah 55:2 tells us:

“Why do you spend your money for that which is not bread,

and your labor for that which does not satisfy?

Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good,

and delight yourselves in rich food.”

Are you hungry?

I’m sure that you already know why I ask you this question.

Yes, you are right. I’m asking about your spiritual hunger.

Are you hungry for spiritual food?

Jesus gave us his teaching about spiritual hunger.

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are those who mourn,

for they will be comforted.

“Blessed are the meek,

for they will inherit the earth.

“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,

for they will be filled.  (Matthew 5:3-7)

I want us all to give some thought to the spiritual hunger that

we experience and how we might satisfy that need.

Love you in Christ,
