Based on a children’s story, the Mitten Tree Project in-volves an outreach to those in need of mittens and/or gloves, scarves and hats during the cold months of fall and winter. The was proposed by and is being spear-headed by Jean H.

At our Sunday Worship on October 7th a reading of The Mitten Story will take place. The story involves a women

who secretly knits mittens for the needy school children of her neighborhood and through this forges a special bond between herself and the children.

A Mitten Tree will be in place in the sanctuary with mittens and gloves that were previously made. The con-gregation will be encouraged to contribute either hand-made or store bought mit-tens, gloves, hats, or scarves in either adult or children’s sizes and place them on the tree during the duration of this project.

We will kick off the project on October 7th and continue until November 18th. All

items collected will then be taken to CUMAC for distribu-tion to those in need in time for the cold weather.

The creation of a tree as well as the details of the com-mencement of this project are already underway. Get out those knitting needles! Watch for early season sales! Let’s make this inaugural event a success!
