Did you see the movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”, which was released this November? It is a biographical movie about the very famous British rock band “Queen” and the life of their singer Freddie Mercury. Queen made lots of hit songs in 70s and 80s like We are the champions“, “We will Rock You“, and, of course  “Bohemian Rhapsody”.

Did you know the band “Queen” sang a Christmas song? The title of the song is “Thank God It’s Christmas” which was released in November of 1984. Lets look at the song lyrics:

Oh my love we’ve had our share of tears,

Oh my love friend we’ve had our hopes and fears

Oh my friend it’s been a long hard year.

But now it’s Christmas

Yes it’s Christmas

Thank God it’s Christmas…

If we didn’t know who sang this song, we might think that this is a beautiful Christian Christmas song. Well, honestly, I don’t know the background story of this song and I have no clue what they meant by “Thank God it’s Christmas”. So, if I could, I would like to ask them “What was the song about? What does Christmas mean to you”?

Then I would like to ask the same question to ourselves. “What does Christmas really mean to us”? Christmas is about Jesus‟ coming. Advent is the season of waiting for the coming of Christ who brings Joy, Peace, Love, and Hope. Apostle John, who dreamed of the second coming of Jesus shared his vision like this:

“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away…And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem,  coming down out of heaven from God…God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more, mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away…

(Revelation 21:1-4)

What does Christmas mean to you?

Thank God it is Christmas.

Merry Christmas to you!
