What Does “Maundy” Mean?

In Latin the word “mandatum” (sound familiar) means mandate or “commandment”.

Maundy Thursday refers to the commandment Jesus gave at the Last Supper.   We are to love one an other as he has loved us.  (John 13:34)

He shows the humble all caring love (Agape) that he commands we give to others, by washing their feet.
